My collection
What a strange name for a web site you might ask! Well, Ganio or Bai Ganio, as he is called, is a very bellowed, classic character from the Bulgarian literature. Now, if you wander where Bulgaria is and lean towards South America you are very wrong - Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe. Located on the Balkans just north of Greece. Bai Ganio is often accepted as representing the Bulgarian personality - he is quirky and funny, with endless optimism and quick mind, unfortunately not always working for the betterment of human kind. Imagine Dennis the Menace in a large more country like form I was born there but moved to Calgary, Canada 10 years ago, where I still live with my family.

Ganio.com started 5 years ago after I mentioned to my husband that I would like to have the special Holiday Memories Barbie issued the year our daughter was born. He suggested eBay and as they say "The rest is history" (My small, very own history anyway!). I spent day and night on the net looking for Barbies. Became a basement based dealer in order to support my hobby. Few years later I discovered the Japanese fashion doll Jenny. I was amazed how huge the doll collecting hobby is in Japan. Got many friends there who helped me add some rare and interesting dolls to my collection. After that, Jenny gave way to Momoko, Volks and Obitsu. All the time my web site reflected my interest - Barbie slowly disappeared from the pages to be replaced with Japanese dolls and lately with Tyler, Gene and Franklin Mint.

I have always been fascinated with Victorian times and now when I look at my collection I realize that most of my dolls are dressed in period clothing. My husband always argues that old times were harsh and difficult, that the lives of so many were living hell but I can't stop my envy for the few who got to wear those wonderful feminine fashions. I decided to revamp Ganio to reflect my idealistic views of the epoch. After all everyone needs a happy place, real or unreal, in order to survive the daily stress.

Hope you had a nice time visiting me!
